Swedish 'army' woman arrested at Goa airport with live cartridge

Panaji: A Swedish woman, who claims to be an arms instructor with the Swedish Army, was arrested on Monday at Goa's Dabolim airport for carrying a live cartridge while boarding a flight to Mumbai. She will be produced before a court for her remand hearing today.

Inger Kristina Hardinz, 36, was boarding Indigo flight GE-196 when a live 5.56 mm cartridge was found in her hand baggage during the security check.

On being questioned, Ms Hardinz said that she had "no idea" how the cartridge had slipped into her luggage. She was booked under the Arms Act and taken to the Vasco police station.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Deu Benaulikar said that the Swedish embassy had not contacted the state authorities about her arrest yet.

Ms Hardinz had arrived in India on December 23.
