London: Supermodel Gisele Bundchen's call for a "worldwide law" that makes breast feeding mandatory has angered mothers and health experts.

The supermodel who returned to the catwalk after just six weeks of giving birth to son Benjamin, has been branded "smug" for her comments as experts say that many new mothers are physically not capable of breast feeding, reported Contactmusic.

The Brazilian beauty, in an interview to America's Harper's Bazaar magazine, urged mums to feed their newborns naturally to ensure they get the nutrients they need.

"I think there should be a worldwide law, in my opinion, that mothers should breastfeed their babies for six months," she had said.

The comments have not gone down well with many.

"We know breastfeeding is good for women and children but we also don't want to marginalize those who can't breastfeed for whatever reason, said Sue Jacob, a midwife teacher at the Royal College of Midwives."

Anti Breast Feeding Association member Tegan Churchill adds, "Choosing to formula feed is not child neglect."
