Live : Maldaha Uttar Assembly Election 2021

The Maldaha Uttar Lok Sabha constituency came into existence following the implementation of delimitation law in 2008. The constituency consists of Habibpur, Gazole, Chanchal, Harishchandrapur, Malatipur, Ratua and Maldaha seats. The Habibpur, Gazole and Maldaha seats are reserved for candidates belonging to scheduled caste category.

A total of 1683797 electorates have been registered in this constituency this time among which are 53 transgender voters. The voting process will be held at 1713 polling stations in these constituencies.

Maldaha Uttar along with four other constituencies in West Bengal will go to polls on April 23, in the third phase of 2019 general election.

Two-time elected MP Mausam Noor is contesting for the Maldaha Uttar seat third consecutive time. However this time she will be the face of Trinamool Congress. Mausam Noor was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2009 and 2014 as a Congress candidate.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) decided to field the same candidate, Khagen Murmu against 15 contestants. Khagen Murmu had lost the Maldaha Uttar seat in 2014 by a margin of 65705 votes.

Among other key contenders are Congress' Isha Khan Choudhury, CPM's Biswanath Ghosh and Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Nitish Kumar Mandal.

Shiv Sena has nominated Arjun Keshari as its MP candidate for the Maldaha Uttar seat.

Regional parties-Aihra National Party, Bahujan Mukti Party, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Kamatapur People's Party (United), Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist)-have also fielded their candidates for the election.

5 independent candidates are also contesting from the Maldaha Uttar constituency this time.
