Live : Kolkata Dakshin Assembly Election 2021

The Kolkata Dakshin lok sabha constituency will go to polls in the seventh phase of general election 2019. The constituency consists of Kasba, Behala Purba, Behala Paschim, Kolkata Port, Bhabanipur, Rashbehari and Ballygunge assembly segments. The Kolkata Dakshin lok sabha constituency comes within two districts of West Bengal-South 24 Parganas and Kolkata South.

A total of 1728227 electorates have been registered in this constituency among which are 896351 male voters, 831843 female voters and 33 third gender voters. Voting will be held at 2031 polling stations.

In the last general election, this constituency had 69.33% voter turnout. 19511 votes were registered under NOTA option.

13 candidates are in fray for the Kolkata Dakshin seat which was once a stronghold of the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. She had represented the constituency in the Lok Sabha for 6 consecutive terms. TMC party is in the 5th term in Kolkata Dakshin constituency.

Kolkata Dakshin constituency will witness women candidates among key contenders this time.

TMC is fielding Mala Roy this time for the Kolkata Dakshin seat. She will be contesting against BJP nominated Chandra Kumar Bose, Congress' Mita Chakraborty and CPI (M) candidate Nandini Mukherjee.

In 2014 general election TMC had once again regained the seat by defeating BJP's Tathagata Roy by a margin of 136339 votes. In 2014, Subrata Bakshi was elected to the 16th Lok Sabha from this constituency. Mr Bakshi had succeeded Mamata Banerjee in 2011 bye-election.

5 candidates have filled their nomination as independent candidates in this election.
