About Baharampur

West Bengal's Berhampore (or the Baharampur) is the 10th Lok Sabha constituency in the State and comprises Burdwan, Kandi, Bharatpur, Rejinagar, Beldanga, Baharampure and Naoda segments. The Berhmapore will vote in the fourth phase of the election on April 29. This time Congress candidate Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury will contest from the Berhampore seat. Mr Chowdhury is the sitting MP of the constituency. He had won the 2014 general election by garnering 50.54% of the total votes. He had defeated the Indranil Sen, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate.

This time, Apurba Sarkar will be contesting from the Berhampore Lok Sabha seat with TMC ticket. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nominated Krishna Juardar Arya as its candidate from the Berhampore seat in the 17th Lok Sabha election. 

TMC and the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) had received 19.69% and 19.54% of the total votes, respectively in the 16th Lok Sabha election.

A total of 11,54,587 voters had exercised their franchise in the 2014 general election.

The Berhampore Lok Sabha constituency was formed in 1952. Till 1984 and again from 1989-1999 RSP contenders had won the seat. From 1984-1989 Congress represented the constituency and since 1999 the seat is in the stronghold of Congress party.
