About Thrissur

A total of 1293744 voters are expected to exercise their franchise at Kerala's Thrissur lok sabha constituency. Kerala will go to polls on April 23 in the third phase of the seven-phase general election 2019. The Thrissur lok sabha constituency consists of Guruvayoor, Manalur, Ollur Thrissur, Nattika, Irinjalakkuda and Puthukkad legislative assembly segments.

12 third gender voters are also registered in the 2019 general election, the highest in the State. 31 of the total electorates are registered under the third gender category.

Thrissur is as much a Congress bastion as it is a CPI (M) forte'.

Since 1998, Congress and CPI (M) have been winning the seat in alternative terms.

CPI (M)'s CN Jayadevan was elected to the 16th Lok Sabha from the Thrissur constituency. He defeated his nearest rival Congress' K. P. Dhanapalan by a margin of 38277 votes.

Ruling party is fielding Rajaji Mathew Thomas as its MP candidate.

T. N. Prathapan has given the ticket to Congress party.

Film actor Suresh Gopi is contesting for the Thrissur seat as a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate.

8 candidates are contesting for the seat among which are three independent candidates. 13 candidates had filed their nomination for contesting the 2019 general election from the Thrissur constituency.

Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Red Star is fielding ND Venu as its contestant from the Thrissur seat.
