Live : Kozhikode Assembly Election 2021

Kozhikode Lok Sabha constituency will vote on April 23. The constituency comprises Balusseri, Elathur, Kozhikode North, Kozhikode South, Beypore, Kunnamangalam and Koduvally.

A total of 613276 male voters, 651560 female voters and 8 third gender voters will be exercising their franchise in the third phase of the seven-phase general election. The highest numbers of voters are in the Kunnamangalam assembly seat and the least in Kozhikode South.

The voter turnout in Kozhikode constituency was 79.77% in 2014 general election with an average of 1179 voters per polling station. 6381 votes were given under NOTA option.

Congress bastion Kozhikode constituency will see MK Raghavan, the sitting MP, contesting for the third time in a row. In 2014 general election, Congress' MK Raghavan had won the seat defeating CPI (M)'s A.Vijayaraghavan by a margin of 16883 votes.

Key contender, MK Raghavan holds a graduate degree in History and has founded many co-operative institutions which led to generation of ample employment opportunities for the rural youth & especially women in Kerala.

While CPI (M), which has a stronghold in few constituencies in Kerala, has won the Kozhikode seat for a single term, Indian Union Muslim League has won it for 3 consecutive terms. Janata Dal and Janata Dal (Secular) have won the seat in 1996 and 2004, respectively.

CPI (M) is fielding A. Pradeep Kumar for the Kozhikode seat this time. He will contest against 12 other contenders and the incumbent MP.

Nine candidates-- Nusrath Jahan, Prakash Babu Chaithram, Pradeep.V.K, Pradeep Kumar.E.T Peedikathodi Veedu, Pradeepan.N, Raghavn.N Allachiparambu, Raghavan.T Thayyullayil, Raghavan.P Vadakke Edoli and Raghavan Nair Manikkothu Kunnummal have filed their nomination as independent candidates.

Among other key contenders are Bharatiya Janata Party nominated Adv.Prakash Babu and Bahujan Samaj Party contender K. Raghu.
