The Attingal Lok Sabha constituency will go to polls on April 23, in the third phase of 2019 general election. The Attingal constituency consists of Varkala, Attingal, Chirayinkeezhu, Nedumangad, Vamanapuram, Aruvikkara and Kattakkada assembly seats. A total of 1319805 voters will exercise their franchise in Attingal constituency. The voter turnout was 68.67% in the 2014 general election.

Attingal as a constituency will go to polls for the third consecutive time since its formation in 2008 following the delimitation law for the parliamentary constituencies.

CPI (M) has a stronghold on the Attingal seat. Aiming for another consecutive victory in the constituency, the party is fielding Dr. A. Sampath as its MP candidate. An Economics postgraduate Dr. Sampath holds a Masters degree in Economics along with LLB degree.

In the 2014 polls, Dr. Sampath had won the Attingal seat by a margin of 69378 votes defeating his nearest rival Congress' Adv.Bindhu Krishna. This time Congress is fielding Adv. Adoor Prakash against 17 other contenders and the incumbent MP.

6924 votes in the constituency was given under NOTA option in 2014 election.

Social Democratic Party of India is also contesting for the Attingal seat and Ajamal Ismail is representing the party.

14 independent candidates are contesting for the Attingal seat.

23 nominations were filed in total out which 2 got rejected and 2 were withdrawn.
