In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Meenakshi Lekhi was elected from New Delhi on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket. She received 4,53,350 votes. Her closest opponent was Ashish Khetan from the AAP who received 2,90,642 votes. Meenakshi Lekhi won the constituency by a margin of 1,62,708 votes.

In the 2009 general elections, the New Delhi seat was won by Ajay Makan on a Congress ticket. In 2004, New Delhi seat was won by Ajay Makan of Congress and his runner up was Jagmohan of BJP.

The New Delhi parliamentary constituency consists of 10 Vidhan Sabha seats: Karol Bagh, Patel Nagar, Moti Nagar, Delhi Cantt, Rajinder Nagar, New Delhi, Kasturba Nagar, Malviya Nagar, R K Puram and Greater Kailash.

In the 2019 general elections, the BJP fielded Meenakshi Lekhi, the Congress party's candidate is Ajay Makan and the AAP has fielded Brijesh Goyal.
