Delhi University's Miranda House Inaugurates IBSD Centre For Northeast Studies

New Delhi: Governor of Manipur Dr Najma Heptulla yesterday inaugurated a centre of Institute of Bio-resources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) in Miranda House College of Delhi University for North East Studies. This Centre plans to focus on scientific research and education outreach on all aspects of biodiversity and sustainable development in the Northeastern states. IBSD, Manipur is an institute under Union Biotechnology ministry and its main goal is scientific management of bio-resources in the Indian region falling under Indo-Burma Biodiversity Hotspot. One of the objective of IBSD is to collaborate with other institutions, organizations or universities nationally and internationally in furthering research pursuits in bio-resources.

During the inauguration, the Dr Najma Heptulla stressed that the new centre in Miranda House College will create a better research-based understanding of the ethos, challenges and opportunities in the Northeastern states in a culturally sensitive manner."

Dr Heptulla has also invited all to visit the Northeast and understand the need to appreciate and utilize its resources in a judicious manner aiming for inclusive growth for the people in the north eastern region on the country.

Director of Institute of Bio-resources and Sustainable Development, Professor Dinabandhu Sahoo, spoke about the inauguration of this Centre as a historic moment for the institution.

Dr Pratibha Jolly, the Principal of Miranda House emphasised that as a college with more than 300 women students from the Northeast, the Centre will be a research centre that will look at the Northeast through the prism of various academic disciplines, reported The Sentinel.

This is a second centre for of Institute of Bio-resources and Sustainable Development in Delhi, first one being the one in Kalindi College.
