Jalandhar: A fire broke out at the main branch of State Bank of India in Jalandhar today which reportedly caused damage worth lakhs of rupees, fire officials said.
The fire broke out at at main branch of SBI at 6 am this morning and four fire-brigades fought the blaze for one-and-a-half hours before bringing it under control, deputy fire officer Rajendra Sharma said.
Investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of the fire but prima facie it appears to be a case of short-circuit, police said.
According to bank officials, the fire broke out in the loan section of the branch and it gutted computers and other equipments in the branch. The damages are still being calculated, but initial estimates put the damage around lakhs, they added.
