Toyota's motorsport division, Gazoo Racing, has pushed its engineers to take the next step in the evolution of hot hatches and unveiled the GRMN Corolla. Pushing the design of the GR Corolla, the brand has ensured that the new iteration is optimised for track performance and so, "so drivers can confidently push it to the limit at the Nurburgring." Here are the design and performance elements that the new hatchback gets.

Engine and Performance Upgrades

The GRMN Corolla is powered by the same 305 hp 1.6-litre 3-cylinder turbo-petrol 'G16E-GTS' engine found in the standard GR Corolla. However, torque output has been increased from 400 Nm to 415 Nm. A 6-speed manual transmission is the only gearbox available, and the GRMN Corolla also features an intercooler spray system for enhanced cooling during demanding driving conditions.

Chassis and Dynamics

On the dynamics front, the GRMN Corolla utilises new front and rear monotube shock absorbers with rebound springs, which are claimed to improve traction during cornering. Gazoo Racing has also optimised the electric power steering and all-wheel-drive system specifically for track use, delivering sharper handling characteristics.

Aggressive Exterior Design

The GRMN Corolla's exterior resembles a full-blown motorsport machine thanks to its radical body kit. The front features a revised bumper with larger air intakes, carbon fibre side spoilers, a new carbon fibre bonnet with prominent air ducts, and a smoked finish for the Toyota emblem.

Side fender ducts and air exits behind the front wheel arches are among the most noticeable updates. The matte bronze 18-inch alloy wheels match the GR Corolla's size but are shod in stickier Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup 2 tyres that are 10 mm wider. At the rear, a large carbon fiber roof spoiler and smoked Toyota badge complete the look.

Despite the new body kit, dimensions remain mostly identical to the GR version, with only a 5 mm reduction in overall height. The GRMN is also 30 kg lighter than the manual-equipped GR Corolla.
