Mahindra has renamed the Thar. The SUV is now called Thar OG; the suffix brings with it a new-gen platform along with an updated suspension and steering setup. The prices for the SUV start at Rs 10.32 lakh (ex-showroom), which is the same as the outgoing model.

The new Thar will come equipped with an electronic locking differential, which will aid its off-roading capabilities along with the new suspension setup. The new feature gives it an edge over rivals like Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Force Gurkha.

The Mahindra Thar facelift now gets an electric power steering, the feature is aimed at making the steering wheel operation "feather-light" as per the automaker. This is one of the features that seems to have been included, based on consumer feedback, borrowed from other models of the automaker.

Mahindra has updated the chassis of the SUV along with improvements in the suspension setup aimed at improving the ride quality of the SUV. The SUV now gets a suspension setup with Watts linkage and Da Vinci dampers. This is the first time the setup has been used on a body-on-frame.

The current version of the Mahindra Thar is priced at Rs 10.32 lakh (ex-showroom), the upcoming version is expected to command a premium over it and might be in the vicinity of Rs 11 lakh in the Indian market.

In the Indian market, the Mahindra Thar Facelift will compete against models like the Force Gurkha and the Maruti Suzuki Jimny. The Thar will have a far better proposition to offer in terms of overall package after the upcoming facelift compared to these competitors.
