Sacramento, California: Airman 1st Class Spencer Stone, one of the three men who foiled a terrorist attack on a Paris-bound train in August, was stabbed in Sacramento early Thursday, an Air Force official said. The official requested anonymity because an official statement has not yet been released.

The attack occurred about 1 a.m. Thursday, the official said, and Stone was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Stone and two friends were on a high-speed train bound for Paris in August when, after a stop in Brussels, they heard what sounded like gunfire. After seeing the gunman struggling with another passenger, Stone and two companions, Alek Skarlatos and Anthony Sadler, rushed to subdue him.

Although Stone's thumb was severely cut, he moved quickly to help stem the bleeding of another injured passenger. No one was critically hurt or killed in the attack, and the three were said by the French authorities to have saved many lives.

Stone aided the other passenger because he is a trained medical technician whose "second instinct" is to help in a crisis, said Airman 1st Class Sean Murphy, a friend at the Lajes air base in the Azores, where both men serve as emergency medical personnel.

Stone re-enters the news only days after his companion Skarlatos, who is from Roseburg, Oregon, and is now a contestant on "Dancing With the Stars," delivered a public tribute to the victims of an attack at Umpqua Community College on the television show Monday.
