Ship pitching in high seas after losing an engine
Antarctic region: Officials say a US-operated Antarctic cruise ship with 160 people aboard has lost an engine in high seas, but is limping safely to its scheduled port.

The Argentine Navy said the Clelia II declared an emergency on Tuesday, reporting it had lost an engine amid heavy seas and 55 miles per hour (90 kilometres per hour) winds when it was northeast of the Shetland Islands and about 500 miles (845 kilometres) from Ushuaia.

The ship, operated by Polar Cruises of Bend, Oregon, has 100 passengers and 60 crew members aboard, according to the Navy.  All were reported safe.

Navy spokesman Alexandro Lopez said he did not know the identity of those aboard.

The Navy said the cruise ship was heading for the port of Ushuia at the extreme south of Argentina at four knots (about five miles per hour) on Wednesday and was accompanied by a naval vessel.

The ship set out from Ushuaia on November 30 and was scheduled to return on Wednesday.
