Paint Cans Spark Bomb Scare At Rome Station

Paint cans were tied together with insulating tape and were found on Termini Station's platform 1.

Rome, Italy: Three paint cans left on a platform triggered a brief bomb scare at Rome's main rail station on Monday.

The cans had been tied together with insulating tape and were found on Termini Station's platform 1.

Police at Termini evacuated passengers from the platform and a bomb disposal team discovered the cans contained animal feed.

It was the third bomb scare at Termini in less than two weeks.

On October 13, platforms 7 to 12 were evacuated after security staff was alerted about a parcel left near platform 10. On investigation, it was found to contain pots and pans.

Earlier, on October 13 an abandoned suitcase was found outside a high-school in Independence Square, which contained painting equipment.

Following a recent wave of jihadist attacks in France and Germany, Italy is on 'level two' terror alert, the highest possible in the absence of a direct attack.
