Blast in Israeli embassy car, 4 injured

Forensic experts are studying the explosives that were found near the Toyota Innova, which was destroyed in the incident. Sources say sophisticated material was used. Delhi Police sources say there is no CCTV footage that they are aware of. They're not sure if the Israeli embassy's security cameras caught the explosion.

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has blamed Iran, he says the militant group Hezbollah is behind the attack. Israel says its diplomats have been targeted globally; it confirms an averted attack bid in Georgia today and similar incidents in Bangkok and Baku in Azerbaijan in the recent past. Mr Netanyahu said in a statement, "In the past few months we have witnessed several attempts to attack Israeli citizens and Jews in a number of places - Azerbaijan, Thailand and others...and each of those cases we managed to thwart the attacks with the cooperation of local officials. In all of those cases, those who stood behind the attacks were Iran and its proxy, Hezbollah."

A doctor attending on the injured Israeli woman, Tal Yeshova, has said she was currently undergoing spinal surgery. He said Ms Yeshova had suffered multiple injuries and one of her legs was not moving. The other three people have minor injuries, police said.

Delhi police says the woman diplomat injured in the attack - Tal Yeshova - was on her way to pick up her children from school when the incident took place. Doctors say she is currently undergoing spinal surgery and has suffered multiple injuries.

Three others - Manoj Sharma ,the 44-year-old driver of the car, and Arun Sharma and Manjeet Singh - occupants of another car have been admitted to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital with splinter injuries.

In Tel Aviv, Israel's Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman hinted at the Hezbollah being behind the attack and said, "Israel and citizens face terror inside and outside of Israel everyday. We know how to identify who is responsible and who carries it out."

The Associated Press has quoted Israel's Foreign Ministry as saying that there have been a pair of attempted car bombings against Israeli diplomats in India and Georgia. Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor was quoted as saying that  one Israeli was wounded in the New Delhi attack near the Israeli Embassy. There is no official word of such a link in New Delhi. The Israeli Embassy told NDTV: "We do not know what caused the explosion. One person has been injured, a diplomat, who is now in hospital. We are in touch with local authorities."

An explosion took place in an Israeli diplomat's car at about 2 pm today barely 200 metres from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's 7 Race Course Road residence.
