Washington: The execution on Wednesday of a woman in the US state of Georgia was put off for several days because of a winter storm and "associated scheduling issues," authorities said.
Kelly Gissendaner, 46, had been set to die by lethal injection at 7:00 pm local time at a prison in Jackson, south of Atlanta, becoming the first woman to be executed in Georgia in 70 years.
Her execution was delayed until the same time on Monday.
Gissendaner was sentenced to death for the 1997 killing of her husband, from whom she had separated several times and even divorced before remarrying.
She recruited her lover to carry out the murder and claim her husband's life insurance.
The boyfriend pleaded guilty and testified against her. He was sentenced to life imprisonment.
Gissendaner's execution was delayed "due to weather and associated scheduling issues," prisons spokeswoman Gwendolyn Hogan said.
A strong winter storm was due to hit northern Georgia on Wednesday, including in the Atlanta area. Governor Nathan Deal declared a state of emergency and the closure of school and government offices.
The Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles said it had denied a clemency request for Gissendaner.
