Ranjit, a midwife at a village close to Patran, has been attending calls from a neighbouring village for the last two years. NDTV met Ranjit who revealed the nexus of midwives, agents, ultrasound clinics and nursing homes. She said couples after determining the sex of the foetus, approach mid wives who then get in touch with agents.
