Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's current tenure has two distinct parts - before and after Parliamentary elections of 2004. Jayalalithaa's All India Anna DMK party was heavily defeated. It conceded all the state's 39 seats in Parliament to the opposition DPA alliance.
