In June 2004, there was anger and emotions at the Muslim-dominated suburb of Mumbra outside the house of Ishrat Jahan. The 17-year-old was shot and killed in Ahmedabad by the police who said she was trying to assassinate Gujarat CM Narendra Modi. But claims of her innocence triggered protests that began in Mumbai and snowballed across the country.
