India produces the largest number of films in the world every year. And yet since 1956, when the Oscars for Best Foreign Language Film were started, India has managed just three nominations and no wins. Not that we have never sent good films. We have had entries like Ankur(1974), Saheb, Bibi, Ghulam(1963), Shatranj Ke Khiladi(1978), but few and far between.
