Violence at Nandigram over land acquisition

In West Bengal, another Singur could be in the making at Nandigram near Haldia where villagers clashed with police on Wednesday over land acquisition for two Special Economic Zones. Two policemen have been seriously injured. The villagers are up in arms over the government's plans to acquire almost 20,000 acres for the SEZs that are to be built in the East Midnapore district by a consortium led by Indonesia's Salim Group.
