Kolkata Police Officer Injured As Protests Outside New Market Turn Violent
A senior police officer was hit on the head by a brick hurled by BJP workers during a protest in front of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation today. Deputy Commissioner of Police Devendra P Singh, who was not wearing a helmet, was at the protest using a megaphone asking protestors to disperse when a brick flew straight at him and hit his head.

Violent clashes took place between the Left party SUCI (Socialist Unity Centre of India) and the police in the heart of Kolkata this afternoon. Around 250 people were injured - among them were five policemen.
