Sunrisers Hyderabad's 23-run win over Rajasthan Royals

Sunrisers Hyderabad scored a comprehensive 23-run win over Rajasthan Royals on Friday, May 17 2013 at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium, Hyderabad.

  • After three of their players made the headlines for the wrong reasons on Thursday (May 16, 2013), Rajasthan Royals looked for an encore on the field. And it all started with Rahul Dravid giving the opening over to Brad Hodge, who hadn't bowled earlier in this year's IPL edition. The Australian, did well though, tying down the two left-handers Shikhar Dhawan and Parthiv Patel to just 3 runs in the opening over. (BCCI image)
  • James Faulkner drew first blood for the Royals, in the very second over of the match, when he got Parthiv Patel played on. Five balls later, he got Shikhar Dhawan caught at point by Ajinkya Rahane. (BCCI image)
  • Unheralded Orissa batsman Biplab Samantray played the best knock of his IPL career, reaching a maiden fifty. The right-hander score 6 fours and a six in his 46-ball 55-run knock that set the tone for Hyderabad to reach a fighting total after they were reduced to just 8 for 3 in the third over. (BCCI image)
  • Darren Sammy hit a four and a six in his 19-ball 23 that set up a 56-run consolidating stand with Samantray. (BCCI image)
  • Kevon Cooper came up with an athletic effort at the deep long on boundary to end Biplab Samantray's crucial knock. Cooper had to move backwards to latch on to a tricky catch. (BCCI image)
  • Dale Steyn was bowled by James Faulkner, giving the left-handed pace bowler his best-ever figures in T20 cricket (5 for 16). Faulkner also became the first bowler in IPL history to claim two five-wicket hauls. He had repeated the feat at home against the same team at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. (BCCI image)
  • Rahul Dravid always looks determined when he comes out to bat and Friday was no different. He gave the Rajasthan Royals a solid start, helping them reach 30 for no loss in five overs in a chase of 137 runs at Hyderabad. Dravid pulled Ishant Sharma for huge six over the fine leg fence. • But Dravid's knock of 25 was soon to be cut short via a direct hit from Cameron White that ran him out at the non-striker's end. Dravid and Rahane tried to steal a non-existent single after a misfield by the bowler in the 8th over. Dravid's team could never recuperate from this blow. (BCCI image)
  • Leg spinner Karan Sharma went for 13 runs in his first over, but after that he tightened his line and length to get two crucial wickets of Ajinkya Rahane early on and later of James Faulkner, who had swept him for a six a ball before getting out to him. (BCCI image)
  • Darren Sammy took the most important catch of the match, of Shane Watson, who mistimed a lofted shot. Sammy leaped high in the air after pouching Watson, who struggled on a bowler-friendly wicket. Watson's 11 came off 20 balls and he was unable to score a single boundary. (BCCI image)
  • Stuart Binny, who had played crucial knocks for his side previously, got dismissed for the first time after 6 unbeaten innings. He was bowled by Thisara Perera. With Rajasthan half their side down, the target looked more and more unachievable. (BCCI image)
  • Leg spinner Amit Mishra bagged his fourth Man of the Match award in this year's IPL. He bagged figures of 4-0-8-2 and bowled 18 dot balls to strangulate the Rajasthan Royals batters in a tricky run-chase. (BCCI image)
  • In the end, Hyderabad inflicted the biggest loss in terms of runs on Rajasthan Royals this season, by 23 runs. Four Hyderabad bowlers, Dale Steyn, Thisara Perera, Amit Mishra and Karan Sharma scalped two wicket apiece to give thier side a more than realistic chance of making the playoffs. (BCCI image)
