How Bangalore prevailed over Delhi in Super-Over finish

Royal Challengers Bangalore registered their fourth win of the tournament to go top of points table after a Super Over win against Delhi Daredevils at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday (April 16, 2013) night.

  • This was the battle between two of Sri Lankan cricket's longest serving superstars - Muttiah Muralitharan and Mahela Jayawardene. Where Mahela captained the Delhi team, Muralitharan did not feature in the RCB line up. (BCCI image)
  • Virender Sehwag gave Delhi a brisk start after being put into bat. Just when it seemed that Sehwag was finding his feet, he lobbed a simple catch to mid-wicket to be out for 25. Sehwag played 23 balls in his innings punched with 4 fours. (BCCI image)
  • Vinay Kumar was the first to get things going for RCB, catching David Warner sharply of his own bowling. (BCCI image)
  • Delhi wicket-keeper and a consistent domestic limited-overs performer, Kedar Jadhav struck crucial blows towards the end and took Delhi to a fighting total along with Irfan Pathan. (BCCI image)
  • Chris Gayle delighted his home fans with two sixes in his 13-run knock but Gaylestorm was calmed by Morne Morkel. (BCCI image)
  • Kohli and AB de Villiers combined to form a 103-run stand that nearly shut Delhi out of the game. Kohli going on to cross 300 runs in this season and registering his 12th fifty in tournament history. (BCCI image)
  • Delhi came back to strike a flurry of wickets, which saw De Villiers run out, Andrew McDonald go for zero, Arun Karthik run out for 5, Syed Mohd dismissed for 1, meaning RCB lost 5 wickets in space of 9 runs. (BCCI image)
  • When Umesh Yadav snapped Virat Kohli for 65, it almost looked over for the home side but Ravi Rampaul and R Vinay Kumar held the nerve to seal a tie. (BCCI image)
  • AB de Villiers, starred in the Super Over for the RCB, scoring two sixes of Umesh Yadav. (BCCI image)
  • Delhi's chase of 16 runs in the Super Over began horrendously, with David Warner out caught by Chris Gayle at point off Ravi Rampaul on the very first ball. Delhi staring down the barrel, needing 16 from 5 balls. (BCCI image)
  • However, Irfan Pathan had other ideas. The left-hander hit 10 of three balls to make sure Delhi needed 6 from the final 2 balls. Could Delhi get those? (BCCI image)
  • The answer was no as Ravi Rampaul held his nerve to not just restrict Irfan to a single off the penultimate ball, but also clean bowled Ben Rohrer on the final ball, leaving the visitors five short at the end of the Super Over. (BCCI image)
  • Surely, Virat Kohli the skipper was a relieved after the closely-fought win. His previous tryst with the Super Over saw his side lose to Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier in the tournament and Kohli was pumped up after snatching a win from the jaws of defeat in a match that his side seemed to have wrapped up at one stage.
