First Test, Day 3: Cook fights back for England after spin-powered India enforced follow on

It was a tale of two contrasting innings from the England batsmen as they ended Day 3 on 111/0 in their second innings after following on. The visitors were bundled out for 191 by India with Pragyan Ojha bagging a five-for and R Ashwin getting three.

  • It was all about Indian spinners for large parts of the third day. Pragyan Ojha was definitely the pick of all the bowlers on show although R Ashwin did bowl with guile on occasions but was ordinary on others. (Photo credit: BCCI)
  • Even as the Indians were displaying great skills, English batsmen were ordinary to say the least in their first innings. Ian Bell got out the next ball that KP had been bowled by Ojha. It was an irresponsible and probably over-confident shot at the time. His record in India is dismal, with average of 18 or so in six Tests. (Photo credit: BCCI)
  • Ojha might have reigned supreme for large parts of the day but Zaheer Khan bowled one of the spells of the day late in England's first innings. He was reversing the ball prodigiously and at will. Some decisions did not go his way but Stuart Broad finally became his first victim. The irony, this one seemed more doubtful than all others he had appealed for. (Photo credit: BCCI)
  • It was that man again, Pragyan Ojha, who took the final wicket of England's first innings in the form of Matt Prior. The hosts then enforced the follow on, a positive decision but they may rue it since England openers are batting brilliantly as of now. (Photo credit: BCCI)
  • And we are not leaving you at that! Ojha again! Pragyan Ojha gave the Indian team a slight scare in the second innings while fielding. He dived trying to stop a ball off R Ashwin's bowling and looked in some discomfort. Everyone was relaxed though when he promptly returned soon after.
In fact he also had a close, rather plumb lbw decision of captain Cook turned down in the second run. (Photo credit: BCCI)
