CLT20: What's different in Season 4

The World Twenty 20 might have ended but there is more T20 action in store for cricket fans. The Champions League T20 begins October 13 in South Africa. The fourth edition of the tournament will have fourteen teams playing for the trophy. So what exactly is different this time? Let's take a quick look...(Photos AP & AFP)

Change in format: There is a slight change in the format. Unlike last year, the 2012 edition will have only two teams qualifying to the group stage.

It's a first for Pakistan: Pakistan cricketers may not have been picked for the IPL, some of them will be representing their country in the Champions League. For the first time, Pakistan's T20 champions Sialkot Stallions will participate in the tournament. Will this open the IPL gates for Pakistan players?

New Sponsor: They are the ones who bring in the moolah. The Champions League has got a new sponsor this time. Karbonn Mobiles is the official sponsor of the tournament. Interestingly, the first sponsor of the CLT20 was Nokia, another mobile-manufacturing group. They terminated their four-year deal after just one year.

Four IPL teams: In the first edition, the Champions League had two IPL teams. Second and third edition had three teams. But this year, the number has gone up to four. They are Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Daredevils and Chennai Super Kings. Royal Challengers Bangalore, who played in the last three editions, failed to qualify this season.

Mahela Jayawardena to lead Delhi Daredevils: After leading Delhi Daredevils in four of the five IPL editions, Virender Sehwag stepped down from the skipper's post last month. Mahela Jayawardena, who led Sri Lanka into the final of the World T20, will lead the side in CLT20.

Sehwag decided to give up captaincy so that he could bat more freely. Well, as long as he scores big, Delhi fans are happy with his decision.
