The Indian Army deployed specialised earth penetrating radars to locate the bodies of 10 soldiers who were buried alive in an avalanche in the Siachen Glacier.
10 soldiers were at their base on the Saltoro ridge in Siachen, at a height of 19,600 feet, and close to the border with Pakistan when the avalanche struck.
Rescue efforts were scaled up on February 4 with induction of specialised teams, sniffer dogs and equipment.
After some 300 sorties and an intensive search operation at a height where it is difficult to walk, let alone dig, the rescue team found bodies.
On Monday night, a rescue team pulled out army soldier Hanamanthappa. who was trapped under 25 feet of snow in temperatures close to minus 40 degrees.
Rescue teams had to battle frequent blizzards and work through low visibility.
