Indrani Mukerjea Hospitalised Again, This Time for Suspected Dengue

The local court on October 19 had extended the custody of Indrani Mukerjea, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and her driver Shyamvar Rai till October 31.

Mumbai: Key accused in the Sheena Bora murder case Indrani Mukerjea has been admitted to Mumbai's JJ Hospital once again after being diagnosed with dengue. Doctors from the state-run hospital are examining her as her platelet count has dropped.

"We have informed the court that Mukerjea is suffering from suspected dengue and her platelet levels have gone down to 65,000," a jail official told news agency Press Trust of India.

He further told PTI that doctors from JJ hospital are attending to Ms Mukerjea in the prison and if it's imperative to admit her, then she will be taken to the hospital.

The jail officer's report, submitted to Magistrate RV Adone, came after the court yesterday directed the prison authorities to produce Indrani in view of the application made by the Central Bureau of Investigation seeking her voice samples.

The central probe agency had told the court yesterday that it had got hold of some call records which purportedly featured her voice, and therefore it wanted her voice sample for verification.

The local court on October 19 had extended the custody of Ms Mukerjea, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and her driver Shyamvar Rai till October 31.

On September 7, a fortnight after their arrest and prolonged interrogation, the court had remanded Ms Mukerjea and Mr Rai to judicial custody till September 21, which was later extended till October 5 and further up to October 19.

A day after on September 8, Mr Khanna too was remanded in judicial custody.

Ms Mukerjea, Mr Khanna and Mr Rai have been arrested on the charge of murdering 24-year-old Sheena and disposing off her body in a Raigad forest in April 2012.

The police had exhumed remains of a body from Raigad forest and later claimed that digital superimposition of the profile of Sheena had matched with the skull recovered from the forest.

The police have also extensively grilled Ms Mukerjea's husband Peter Mukerjea, though he is not an accused in the case. Others questioned in connection with the case include Peter's son Rahul Mukherjea and Vidhie, daughter of Ms Mukerjea and Sanjeev Khanna.
