Govt, BJP, SP apologize for scuffle in Parliament

New Delhi: The Samajwadi Party, the BJP and the government have all apologised for the scuffle that forced the Rajay Sabha to adjourn on Tuesday morning.

When Home Minister P Chidambaram rose to table the Liberhan Report on the Babri Masjid Demolition, MPs from the BJP started shouting "Jai Shri Ram." NDTV's Correspondent Rahul Shrivastava points out it is unprecedented for these type of communal comments to be made during proceedings in Parliament.

Amar Singh of the Samajawadi Party then jumped into the Well of the House and got into a scuffle with SS Ahluwalia of the BJP. Amar Singh's gesture is seen as an attempt to play to his party's Muslim vote bank.

Their party colleagues separated Singh and Ahluwalia. The unruly scene upset Deputy Chairman K Rahman Khan so much that he left the Chair without even announcing the adjournment of the House.

After Singh and SP members went back to their seats, they shouted counter slogans "Ya Ali. Ya Ali".

The Rajya Sabha was then adjourned.

The Liberhan Report has indicted the BJP's top rung for fuelling and executing the demolition of the Babri Masjid in 1992.
