1984 Riots Case Accused Sajjan Kumar Seeks Anticipatory Bail

Sajjan Kumar has been accused of instigating a mob for killing 2 Sikhs in 1984 Sikh riots.

New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Sajjan Kumar has moved an anticipatory bail application in a 1984 anti-Sikh riot case, sources said on Monday.

The bail will be heard by a sessions judge on Tuesday.

Sajjan Kumar has been accused of instigating a mob for killing two Sikhs -- Sohan Singh and his son Avtar Singh -- in Janakpuri area in Delhi on November 1, 1984.

The case was opened by the Special Investigation Team recently.

Advocate HS Phoolka, who is representing the victim, has said that he will oppose the bail tooth and nail.

"Phoolka, who had 11 meetings scheduled in the villages of his constituency in Punjab for tomorrow (Tuesday), has cancelled all his meetings and is rushing to Delhi to oppose the bail," a statement said.

Last month, Sajjan Kumar was pulled up by Delhi High Court making allegations of bias against a judge and seeking transfer of a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, saying it was "a frontal attack intended to humiliate the judge" and warned of invoking contempt proceedings.
