Five-year-old shot in Gurgaon: Several unanswered questions remain
Gurgaon: Vanya Chaddha, the five-year-old girl who was shot on Monday night in Delhi's satellite town Gurgaon, continues to be critical. The family claims the security guard of the building shot her, but the police say she might have been playing with the gun and accidentally pulled the trigger.

Vanya's family alleges that she was shot with the double barrel gun of the security guard who fled after the incident. "My little girl who hasn't even seen anything in the world yet is now on life support. Please pray for her recovery," pleaded Gagan Chaddha, her father.

Mr Chaddha says the family had just returned from a trip to Agra when the incident happened. "While the family was taking out their luggage from the car, Vanya was playing within the condominium complex. The guard was also present at the spot. I saw the guard walk upto her and then a big sound, (The) next thing I saw (was) Vanya lying on the ground," he said.

"A case has been registered against the guard, whether it was an intentional murder or an accident will be ascertained once we take him in custody. Our teams are looking for him we have raided his home town as well, we will be able to nab him soon," said Maheshwar Dayal, Deputy Commissioner of Police.

However, there are several unanswered questions that remain in the case. Like, where is the CCTV footage retrieved from the gate of the DLF complex, and why haven't the police seen it yet? And, what was a guard with a loaded double barrel gun doing so close to a five-year-old child? Also, even if the police go by the theory that Vanya was playing with the weapon, is it even possible for a five-year-old to hold a double barrel gun? Did the guard hold a proper licence and did he have enough training?

The police are also yet to establish who the guard worked for. The LE Security Agency, hired by DLF, has disowned him. The agency claims that he was working for Vanya's family, but they have denied it. Vanya's family says why just the guard, the onus should also be on the security agency and DLF, the developer of the building complex.
