Arvind Kejriwal's Rebuttal to PM Modi: Highlights

AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal addressing a press conference to offer rebuttal to Prime Minister Narendra's Modi's attack against his party.

New Delhi:  Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has responded to Prime  Minister Narendra Modi, who attacked him and his party at an election rally at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan. Without naming either the AAP or anyone in its leadership, Mr Modi had launched the attack, saying what Delhi needed was development and not anarchy, in allusion to Mr Kejriwal's declaration of himself as an anarchist while he was Chief Minister a year ago.

Here are some of the highlights of Mr Kejriwal's rebuttal to the Prime Minister's sppech:

  • From their body language, it seemed as if BJP is nervous.
  • It seemed clear that the BJP has no positive agenda for Delhi. They will only win by name-calling and speaking ill.
  • They called me all kinds of names. We have never done that.
  • But, he (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) said nothing about my 49-day government.
  • BJP in a way gave a certificate for our 49-day government.
  • They had nothing to say about the work I did.
  • BJP had made a lot of promises during elections, which they have forgotten.
  • Modi didn't mention any of those. He was making new promises.
  • We have promised to reduce electricity bills to half the amount monthly. They have said they will give a discount of Rs 300 annually.
  • They promised not to break slums during campaigning. Ever since they have come to power, they have been demolishing one slum after another.
  • Now they are saying they will build homes by 2022. Where will these slum dwellers go?
  • We reduced bribery in Delhi within 49 days. Now, it is back. They either cannot do it, or they don't want to do it.
  • Every thing is four to five times more expensive this year, and they say they they have controlled price rise.
  • They spoke about safety of women. Women have never felt more unsafe than they do now.
  • (BJP president) Amit Shah said they have passed a bill for unauthorised colonies. It was a lie.
  • They are going to reduce the retirement age of govt employees from 60 to 58 years.
  • It has been seven months, and all they have done is opened bank accounts. Where will the money for those bank accounts come from?
  • Delhi BJP is without leadership. It is like a sinking ship without a captain.
