Syria conflict: Bashar al-Assad threatens 'repercussions' if US launches attack
Washington: Syrian President Bashar Assad is warning there will be retaliation against the US for any military strike launched in response to a chemical weapons attack.

In an interview broadcast today on CBS' "This Morning," Assad said, "You should expect everything."

Asked by anchor Charlie Rose to elaborate, Assad said, "You should expect everything. Not necessarily from the government."

He said the US would "pay the price if you are not wise with dealing with terrorists."

President Barack Obama is seeking an authorisation from Congress to punish Assad for an August 21 chemical weapons attack that the administration maintains Assad ordered.

Assad denied that, saying his soldiers were "in another area" at the time. Asked about the case the US is arguing, Assad said, "nothing has been presented."
