Rahul Gandhi's "smash patriarchy" call has triggered a fiery political debate over whether the fight against patriarchy is being applied equally across religions and communities. BJP spokesperson Radhika Khera cited past arguments attributed to the All India Muslim Personal Law Board on triple talaq and questioned why patriarchy within Muslim personal law should not be challenged with the same force.
Political analyst Sanjay Jha agreed that the All India Muslim Personal Law Board's position was patriarchal but accused the BJP of using the issue as a "red herring" to shift the debate away from Rahul Gandhi's call for women's empowerment. Samajwadi Party leader Ghanshyam Tiwari defended the focus on challenging Manusmriti while rejecting what he described as any defence of the text.
