Mamata Banerjee lost her Bhabanipur stronghold to Suvendu Adhikari by 15,114 votes in the West Bengal Assembly elections. Despite taking an early lead of over 17,000 votes, the advantage steadily eroded as counting progressed, eventually turning in Adhikari’s favour. The high-stakes contest in Bhabanipur marks the second electoral defeat of Banerjee to Adhikari, after their closely fought battle in Nandigram in 2021.
