Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday launched a sharp attack on the BJP during a Lok Sabha debate on Vande Mataram, saying those who did not participate in the freedom movement cannot lecture others on the national song’s importance. He said Vande Mataram was meant to unite the country, not divide it, accused the ruling party of promoting “fake nationalism,” and recalled that revolutionaries kept the song alive despite a British ban during the freedom struggle.
