The US Embassy in Iraq has issued an urgent security alert, calling on American citizens to leave Iraq immediately amid escalating threats. Officials warn of potential attacks by Iran-aligned armed groups targeting US citizens and interests across Iraq, including the Kurdish region. The advisory highlights risks from missiles, drones, and rockets, with Iraqi airspace remaining closed. Citizens have been advised to avoid the embassy in Baghdad and the consulate in Erbil, and instead use overland routes to neighbouring countries such as Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey. The alert comes at a time of heightened tensions in the region, signalling growing security concerns even as diplomatic efforts continue in the background.
