Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings rode on Urvil Patel’s explosive 23-ball 65 to beat Lucknow Super Giants by five wickets in a tense IPL clash and keep their playoff hopes alive on Sunday. Chasing 204 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Urvil equalled Yashasvi Jaiswal’s record for the fastest IPL fifty by an Indian, reaching the landmark in just 13 balls. Urvil hammered eight sixes and two fours to put CSK firmly in control before Shivam Dube and Prashant Veer guided the hosts home with four balls to spare. Earlier, Josh Inglis starred for LSG with a blazing 33-ball 85 as the visitors posted 203 for eight. English all-rounder Jamie Overton triggered a mid-innings collapse with three wickets, including Inglis and skipper Rishabh Pant in quick succession. Shahbaz Ahmed then provided late impetus with an unbeaten 43, but it was not enough as LSG suffered their eighth defeat of the season, ending their playoff hopes.
