Union Budget 2026| Indian Industries Seek Steps To Facilitate Trade & Enhance Ease of Doing Business

Indian Industry is banking on a GST-style overhaul of the customs duty regime in the upcoming Union Budget. Corporate India is seeking steps to facilitate trade and simplify dispute resolution mechanisms to further advance the 'Ease of Doing Business' agenda. Besides the rationalisation of Customs duty rates, many believe a single-window clearance mechanism for export and imports would go a long way in boosting the economy. Currently, the customs duty regime has an eight slab structure, with industry demanding that it be reduced to four to five slabs. Indian industry has been facing a challenging phase amid geopolitical conflicts and uncertainty surrounding tariffs imposed by the United States.
