In a sweeping foreign policy move, Donald Trump has ordered the United States to withdraw from as many as 66 international organisations, most of them linked to the United Nations. The decision includes pulling out of a key UN climate treaty and marks one of the largest mass exits by the US from global institutions. According to a State Department statement, the Trump administration has labelled these bodies as “anti-American”, mismanaged, redundant and wasteful, arguing that they no longer serve US interests. A presidential memorandum formalising the withdrawals was signed earlier today.
