Tokyo Olympics 2020 Postponed Due To Coronavirus Pandemic

The 2020 Tokyo Olympics have been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The deadly virus forced the International Olympic Committee to postpone the mega event, which was originally scheduled to start on July 24. The Olympics, which will still be called Tokyo 2020, will now be held from July 23 to August 8, 2021. After the Games were postponed, the IOC set June 29 next year as the new deadline for the qualification period. The Olympics governing body has also extended the deadline for the "final sport entries" to July 5, 2021. The rescheduling of 2020 Tokyo Olympics is an unprecedented event as it happened for the first time since World War II. However, this is not the first time when the Japanese capital Tokyo witnessed a situation like this. Tokyo was supposed to host the 1940 Summer Olympics, which never happened. Due to Japan's military aggression in Asia, Tokyo was stripped of its hosting right and the Games were given to Helsinki, the capital of Finland. However, the 1940 Olympics were eventually scrapped because of World War II and were later named the "Missing Olympics".
