Political Blamegame, Discussion On Anti-Rape Laws In Bengal, Maharashtra
Amid the massive protest that has broken out following the horrific rape of a young doctor in Kolkata, the Bengal government has passed the Aparajita bill which has made the punishment for such cases much more stringent. Meanwhile, in Maharashtra, there is a demand for a similar act named the Shakti bill to be passed following the sexual abuse of two minors in Badlapur with the Act awaiting Presidential assent since 2020. Political parties in both states continue to fight among each other regarding the implementation of these acts.
