The gruesome murder of Mohammad Akhlaq in Dadri, Uttar Pradesh over rumours of storing beef has brought the question of growing intolerance in today's India to the fore. It took more than a week for the Prime Minister to speak out against the growing intolerance that afflicts us. All of this begs the question, is there an attempt to make India a singular, culturally monotheistic country? Should PM Modi have spoken sooner to send a strong message to the mischief makers? Is social media contributing to chaos? Did the luminaries of India's freedom movement ever envisage that our country will be at a crossroad where the whole idea of a pluralistic India would be under threat? We debate on The Big Fight.
