Indian equity benchmarks opened lower on Thursday as oil prices have surged to $126 amid US-Iran stand-off. Also, US President Donald Trump has said that he will maintain the blockade on the Strait of Hormuz. At the open, Sensex fell over 680 points while NSE Nifty50 was down over 200 points. Separately, the rupee opened 16 paise lower at 95.01 against the US dollar compared to Wednesday's close of 94.85 a dollar. However, both the indices extended losses as the session progressed. Precious metals gained on heightened global uncertainty, with gold and silver futures rising 0.70 per cent and 1.80 per cent, respectively.
