Parliament Monsoon Session | 'Punishment Isn't Enough': Opposition Attacks Government Over New Bill

The government's Anti-Paper Leak Bill triggered a stormy confrontation in Parliament after it was introduced in the Lok Sabha, with Opposition parties accusing the Centre of focusing on tougher punishments while ignoring deeper structural issues in the examination system. Amid loud protests and repeated disruptions, the proceedings were adjourned till 5 PM, turning the legislation into the latest flashpoint between the government and the Opposition. The government has defended the bill as a major step toward restoring trust in public examinations through stricter penalties, time-bound investigations and tougher action against organised examination fraud. However, the Opposition insists that the legislation addresses only one part of the problem and that broader reforms, accountability and transparency are equally necessary.
