Indian cities grapple with shrinking spaces for pedestrians. In 2021 alone, pedestrian fatalities in India exceeded those of the EU and Japan combined, as reported by Bosch Limited. Shockingly, almost 99 per cent of Indian pedestrians are at risk of road injuries according to the same report. To make our cities more walkable and safer, a strategic urban planning overhaul is crucial. Prioritising pedestrians, restoring footpaths, and creating secure environments are vital steps forward.
