1990: Another Mahatma set free
After 27 years in prison, South African revolutionary Nelson Mandela was freed, walking out of jail with his wife Winnie. Celebrations across the world culminated in a concert at London's Wembley Stadium where Mr Mandela declared South Africa would soon be free from apartheid.
