As the world welcomed 2018, Assam released the first draft of its National Register of Citizens. About 1.9 people have now been verified as being Assamese. This is an exercise by the state to weed out those they say are illegal citizens, most likely immigrants from Bangladesh. The second list in this Supreme Court-monitored exercise will be out in next month. On Reality Check, tonight we discuss how the first list has left many families happy but also left millions worried.
